Santhosh M: A Journey Fueled by Curiosity, Community, and the Open Road

The rhythm of my childhood was dictated by textbooks and test scores. I grew up in a home where education was both our lifeline and our luxury—exams were treated like championship matches, and every textbook felt like a buried treasure. My parents, firm believers in its power, rarely wavered. To a young me, it felt confining, even suffocating. No play, no stage, no sketchpad—just relentless study. I resented it, until I realized that every restriction they enforced paved the bridge that carried me from my father’s factory line to the corridors of Goldman Sachs. Along the way, I was lifted by “angels”—mentors, scholarships, teachers—who opened stages and opportunities I never knew existed. Not everyone is that lucky, and that’s why I’m driven to build bridges so every curious mind can experience education as an enriching journey, not an unreachable dream.

On my first solo ride along the Tamil Nadu coast on my very own bike, it felt like a dream come true, the sea breeze carried a sudden clarity: each mile I traveled was paved by the lessons I’d learned—and the people who’d trusted me with opportunities. It hit me then that education isn’t just about degrees or grades; it’s the key that unlocks confidence, kindles generosity, and invites us to lift others as we climb.

I still remember the dawn light filtering through my helmet visor as I cruised down those coastal roads, the wind whispering about interdependence. That morning ride taught me that every twist and turn on the road mirrors the challenges we face in society—each one demanding collaboration, trust, and a shared sense of purpose. It was in those quiet moments that I first connected my twin passions: exploring new horizons on a two-wheeler and forging pathways to education for every child, no matter their zip code.

Years later, I found myself in the buzzing corridors of Goldman Sachs in Bengaluru, trading throttle for Python scripts. As an Associate on the Fundamental Equity team, I automate the quantitative analyses that once consumed our days, carving out time for our team to dive deeper into qualitative narratives about industries, investment products, and market landscapes. Each report becomes a chance to ask the bigger question: how do these financial levers lift communities, not just portfolios?

Long before Goldman, I was a curious BTech student at SASTRA University. Amidst algorithms and exam schedules, I co-founded Davara, a grassroots startup support platform that nurtured campus entrepreneurs. I watched classmates transform ideas into pilot ventures, and I realized how a small spark—access to guidance, mentorship, and a supportive policy environment—can ignite lasting change. That revelation fueled my pursuit of an MBA in Finance at NMIMS Mumbai and planted the seeds of my dream to bridge public policy with education.

Today, as I map out my path towards a PhD in public policy, I carry the lessons of those early road trips and campus boardrooms into each policy conversation. I see education as the greatest equalizer—and evidence-based policy as its most powerful engine. Whether it’s designing digital learning frameworks for remote villages or crafting regulatory sandboxes for edtech innovators, I believe that weaving data, finance, and community insight can transform schoolrooms into launchpads for every child’s potential.

When I’m not drafting policy proposals or optimizing data pipelines, you’ll find me under the open sky again—this time behind the wheel of my favorite car, chasing sunrises across unfolding highways. Over a steaming hot cup of filter coffee or a roadside chai stall, I love sparking debates on everything from K-drama plot twists to the next frontier in blended learning. In every conversation, I champion one conviction: true progress is born from interdependence, where analysts, policymakers, teachers, and learners unite toward a shared vision.

My story is still unfolding— one classroom, one road, one policy draft at a time. If you believe that education belongs in every home and that our collective journey is richer when we travel it together, let’s share a ride and explore what we can build next.
